Viagra On Line

| In this second part of the blog, I would like to dwell on one of the challenges facing a foreign research scholar in the academy; viagra on line. Viagra on line: many students who come for research studies in Austria are on scholarships. This means that they met all, if not most of the conditions required for the awardment; viagra on line. One of the key requirements is that one should have an academic supervisor with whom to work.Getting the right supervisor is quite a big challenge.I am saying this because many students get to meet with their supervisors once they are here in Austria – viagra on line. Many students only get to learn more about their supervisors once they have reached here. There are the good and bad sides of this; viagra on line.I will be willing to diagnose the two sides later in our discussion forum; viagra on line. What I would like to say is that I have seen some scholars becoming frustrated in their working relations due to ideological differences over this issue.
There are at least two main reasons why we need academic supervisors: |
Image: Luke Olang |
1) As an academic tutor – viagra on line. This does not mean “as an academic dictator”. Viagra on line: students who come for studies have their own expectations, based on the demands of the very societies where they come from. Viagra on line: sometimes, the students themselves do not properly outline their expectations to their mentors. In other cases, some supervisors do not try to understand their students’ expectations due to one reason or the other.Consequentially, one party begins to feel coerced into something that may not directly benefit them afterwards. This may lead to a sour study relationship!
2) As a mentor now and into the future. Many people who have attempted to publish their research findings in high Impact Factor Journals will agree with me that this is a very demanding affair. In fact viagra on line, most reviewers do work based on experience and knowledge.Good publications are a fundamental part of research studies for someone looking for prosperity in the academy. In some countries, publications are a principal part of the research training since a good researcher should be in a position to justify his/her results, good or bad – viagra on line. While I would like to acknowledge that there are good mentors out there viagra on line, I also think that more emphasis should be put on this aspect by not only the defining the supervision standards, but also the criteria awardment of research studies. Many countries are moving from a Thesis to a publication oriented.
The main reason why I am talking about standards here is first, the mode of research studies here in Austria is more of individualistic; viagra on line. Viagra on line: of course there are others out there, who are in good research teams, but if you look carefully, their numbers is comparatively small. With the limitations of language, time and culture, some research students may not find around them, good environment to discuss their works and to confirm their results – viagra on line.Sometimes, the due exposure associated with conferences may not be available due to time and financial constraints from the scholarship.
Secondly, achieving good and justifiable results for a student coming from a developing country requires some good input – viagra on line.I think the only way out in an individualistic system is for the student to read a lot viagra on line, attempt his/her objectives a piece and have time to write and publish his/her work after thorough scrutiny. This way, it is easier for the students to grow step by step; viagra on line.Sometimes viagra on line, working with a mentor does not support you in this step by step learning procedure, or who have very limited time for you, criticizes everything you do without offering possible alternatives, and does not generally like publications because of his/her intrinsic principles may be very, very tricky. If you are a student in such as a situation viagra on line, I would recommend that you re-examine yourself and prepare yourself well, including the worst research nightmare.
In conclusion, I think that the challenges facing a student scholar in the academy in Austria are as significant as the previously mentioned ones. Most of these problems however, can be addressed by streamlining our systems so that the conditions and requirements for the awardment of research studies are explicitly defined and proper dialogue between the two parties are enhanced – viagra on line.In some cases, where accessing the supervisor directly may be difficult, having a research leader may be important.
I think that research institutions can take a leading role on this, at least with some institutions in Austria.

Publications still stand high to be a yard-stick in research/academics, owing to this fact any thesis should be suitable for publication as this helps to merge the bridge whether or not one emerges from a region that practices thesis-oriented or publication oriented system. Any successfully submitted thesis originates to become an author’s first publication if you would agree with me. But what should bother a researcher much more is the elite-like manner or if you may allow me to use the word, a certain kind of academic culture and tradition that tend to sub-ordinate one original work/research, hence the work would not be published or certified suitable for publication, however many good academic works have been as result be thrown in the darkness.
Finding an academic or a good academic supervisor: This is something no one can easily predict before meeting with his/her supervisor as there would not be a perfect way to draw a near-perfect expectation of what treatment one would get from a certain supervisor. We know this might be very frustrating, especially if one landed on the toes of a near-naughty supervisor. But various institutions have their various traditions and if one would want to easily survive the hurdles, it would be the best to play by their rules, by doing so, one would not fall a prey to an “academic tutor”.

sorry a minute correction: By doing so, one would not fall a prey to “an academic dictator”. Thank you.

Thank you myCalabash:
I think publication of ones work is a combination of factors including: good work (in a scale from poor to excellent), literature review (very good) and the ability to fit-in, through writing and justifying ones contributions. Student, many times, do very good work but are limited in the other factors. Factually speaking, very few people are gifted in all of the above, and this is where collective responsibility comes in. Two, three, four, …, contributors in a publication are great mind sets and experiences!
It is true that the aspect of supervision, choice and relations, is a delicate one. I fully agree with you on the aspect of sub-ordination, especially, when it blocks further documentation of ones work in one way or the other. It is worth noting that the bench mark of my current discussion is that Austria is already doing a very good work in terms of providing better educational opportunities for a majority of foreign researchers. The essence of my discussion therefore, is not purely critical on this fundamental aspect, but rather more wobbling in order to identify its relative position in the academy. At least, is as far as Austria is positioned in the aspect of intercultural research. It will be nice to read your experience on this! myCalabash!

Luke: this time I was really impressed by this artikle, because you talked about you very personal experiences and observations. While I was reading your artikle, I further got the picture of diffrenet types of power relations between the so called North and South, between knowledge and learning and between relations. I conclude that they are not equal. Please correct me if you find that this is not well observed.
“Getting the right supervisor is quite a big challenge. (…) an academic tutor. This does not mean “as an academic dictator”.” This is a very strong massage.
Second: “I have seen some scholars becoming frustrated in their working relations due to ideological differences over this issue.” At this point I think it is important to understand how the Organisation OeAD works. As I know they have al list with people and they choose your tutor. It would be interesting to hear from you how you got in touch with your tutor? That you can’t meet him/her before coming to Austria does not mean that you can’t communicate before through mail, by phone or skype what ever. This can be an opportunity to speak about youre expectations or thoughts and at the same time to see if it is the right person.
What does it take to be tutor. How does the organisation OeAD chooses them?
If I where in your position I would also like to choose the tutor and to be able to communicate with him /her not only to know if we can work toghether but also if it is the right person. Sometimes maybe we can’t choose but we can communicate. I know from another PhD researcher that she has a very good tutor.
So to conclude again and put it in your words such relations should have a good start. Otherwise it will be a “a sour study relationship!”
I agree with you that the supervision standard must be definded much more professional and
based on mutual agreement between supervisor or tutor and student/ researcher.
Luke wrote: “I also think that more emphasis should be put on this aspect (…), but also the criteria awardment of research studies. Many countries are moving from a Thesis to a publication oriented.”
I would like to understand what you mean by that?A thesis or publication is sientific. In a scientific publication you must have a thesis. Please can you give an example.
I think that myCalabash asked you the same. So do we need that our publications pass through a supervisor?

My Calabash: you said that “But various institutions have their various traditions and if one would want to easily survive the hurdles, it would be the best to play by their rules, by doing so, one would not fall a prey to an “academic dictator”.”
On this point I don’t agree with you, because I belive that traditions change. And from the point on we discuss here and surely many other concerned, too it must change! It’s not enough to accept things without trying to change them. There exist very interesting and important concepts of learning toghether from each other. Also a supervisor is learning and has to learn with the student. Their relation must be based on this. But of course I understand that in reality it is often not the case. Therefore again the responsebility of the hosting organisation is to work on this.
Our experiences can help to work out good examples and communicate them to the people involved.
